When
following the Old National Road from
Rethymnon
to Iraklion and turning right in Platanias at the signpost leading to Arkadi Monastery, one will reach the small village of Tsesmes located on the next hill.
By
the branch to Maroulas, one will find the small church of Saint Nektarios and next to it the taverna of Stratos Soubasakis and his wife Alexandra who comes from Holland.
|
| |
 |
| |
During
the last years, many smaller apartment facilities were built in Tsesmes both aside the road to Maroulas and below the road to Arkadi.
From
here it is a short walk to Platanias and to the beach, but on the other hand up here the surroundings are much more quiet than down by the tourist mile.

Stratos
and Alexandra adapted themselves to the change of demand in good time.
Their
menu covers not only Greek and "international" dishes but also many specials from Holland, Britain, Germany and other countries.
They
have e.g. Indian Curry with chicken every Saturday.
|
| |
 |
| |
This
unique cuisine does not only attract tourists from the entire region but also many of the European exiles who were driven to the area of Rethymnon and are tired of having Gyros and Souflaki all day.
So
at Stratos' and Alexandra's one will meet the most colourful crowd far and wide:
|
|
 |
| |
 |
| |
 |
|
Original
Cretans and newcomers mix up with tourists from all over the world talking about the country, exchange the best hints for shopping and excursions, and on the side taste some "Meze" with their Ouzo or Raki (which are various snacks as on Crete people never will drink alcohol "dry") - just according to local custom.
|
| |
 |
| |
It
may of course happen that as a tourist you will walk to the beach less often than you planned and instead prefer to take in the atmosphere at Stratos' and Alexandra's where all nationalities and generations chat in a jumble.
Besides,
the hosts will on request also help obtaining one of the holiday apartments in the neighbourhood.
Just drop them an e-mail.
